FAQ'S

Yacht delivery

Answers to common questions about safe, professional yacht transport along Australia's East Coast and into Oceania.

Where do you deliver yachts?

We deliver yachts along Australia’s East Coast, from Sydney north to the Whitsundays, Cairns, the Gold Coast, Moreton Bay, and the Torres Strait. We also deliver internationally to destinations across Oceania, including Papua New Guinea, Vanuatu, New Caledonia, and the Solomon Islands.

What types of vessels do you deliver?

We deliver monohulls, multihulls, motor sailors, and new builds — whether it’s a private cruising yacht, bareboat charter vessel, or a racing yacht.

How much notice do you need?

Ideally, we require 14 days’ notice to schedule a delivery, though we can sometimes accommodate shorter timeframes depending on location and conditions.

Can I come on the delivery?

Yes. Many owners choose to join the passage for the experience or to gain confidence in their vessel. We’ll make sure the trip is suitable based on your experience and the conditions.

What costs are included in a yacht delivery?

The delivery fee covers the professional services provided by East Coast Yacht Deliveries. Travel to the vessel and return travel from the delivery destination are the responsibility of the yacht owner and are charged separately.

The delivery assignment commences when the skipper departs his home to travel to the vessel and concludes upon returning home following completion of the delivery. The agreed daily rate applies throughout the assignment, including travel days, vessel preparation, passage time, and weather delays outside the skipper's control.

Where travel or project requirements only occupy part of a day, a reduced or half-day rate may be applied at the skipper's discretion.

All anticipated costs and charges are discussed and agreed prior to commencement of the delivery.

How do you ensure safety on delivery voyages?

We carry out detailed pre-departure checks, create a clear weather window using PredictWind and Navionics, and plan a conservative sail plan. Safety and vessel integrity come first — no alcohol is permitted while underway.

Will I be kept informed during the trip?

Yes, you’ll receive regular progress updates and can track your vessel’s location in real time.

Do you handle new boat deliveries for buyers?

Yes. We regularly deliver brand new vessels from shipyards, marinas, or import docks to their new owners, ensuring careful handling during commissioning and transit. We can also assist with post-delivery familiarisation and sea trials.

Can you deliver yachts through the Torres Strait or into Oceania?

Absolutely. We have extensive experience navigating the Torres Strait, including seasonal planning, customs requirements, and safe routing. Deliveries into Oceania — such as Papua New Guinea, Vanuatu, and the Solomon Islands — are available by arrangement and require additional prep time.

Buyers Advocacy

Guidance on how I support you through every step of the yacht buying process.

What is a buyers advocate?

I act on your behalf when you’re purchasing a yacht — from our first conversation through to inspection and negotiation. I help assess listings, inspect vessels, and provide practical advice on condition, layout, gear, and ownership costs.

Can you help with vessels located overseas?

Yes. If you're considering a yacht based in Oceania — including New Caledonia, Vanuatu, or the Solomon Islands — I can assist with remote assessments, coordination with local contacts, and follow-up inspections if needed.

How do you charge for advocacy work?

You’re only billed for travel and inspection time — by the day or half-day. The initial phone call is complimentary.

Do you inspect yachts in person?

Yes. I inspect yachts throughout the East Coast — from Sydney to Cairns — and can often inspect more than one vessel per day depending on travel.

Do you offer advice after the sale?

Absolutely. I often assist new owners with delivery, refit coordination, and hands-on seamanship training.

Can you assist with negotiating the final purchase and contract?
Yes. While I’m not a broker, I provide impartial guidance during negotiations — helping you understand a vessel’s true condition, fair market value, and potential future costs. I’ll arm you with the right questions and insights so you can make a confident, well-informed offer.

seamanship training

Details on personalised training to boost your confidence and competence at sea.

Do you offer training for yacht owners?
Yes — practical seamanship training is available onboard your own vessel. Whether you're coastal cruising or preparing for offshore voyages, I tailor each session to your experience and your yacht.
Where is training available?
Training is available anywhere along the East Coast from Sydney north to Cairns, as well as selected locations across Oceania by arrangement.
Is training available during a delivery?
Yes. Many clients choose to join their delivery passage for real-world training. It’s a hands-on way to build confidence in navigation, passage planning, sail handling, and watchkeeping.
What are your qualifications?

I’ve been sailing professionally for over 50 years and hold an AYF Offshore Yachtmaster Instructor Certificate (since 1984), along with credentials in marine first aid, long-range radio operation, and navigation. My training style is relaxed but thorough, always adapted to your goals.
